1993 oldmsmobile regency 98 won't start after changing battery

Battery keep s going dead. Thought it was bad so changed battery and now car won't
start . The temperature light shows hot when I turn the key and believe the security light is
on also. Also the car was not firing properly and was trying to fix that.
