replace the check engine light bulb 2006 kia rio

my check engine light does not come on when the ignition is turned on so I cannot pass inspection here in NC.  I have looked all over the internet and cannot find anything on where/how to check and eplace the check engine light bulb.  Any advice or suggestions are highly appreciated
