2006 kia rio wont shift into Overdrive sommetimes

Asked by dankennedy Dec 30, 2013 at 09:55 PM about the 2006 Kia Rio Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sometimes kia wont shift
into overdrive and rpm is
near red line when on
highway. If I turn car off
then back on it usually fixes
the problem till next time
car is off for awhile. Any
thoughts on what to do?

yes...the overdrive solenoid has been damaged by road debris....just a thought...perhaps the wire was ripped off by a rock that bounced up....mmmyeah...could be~

another thought is WEAK system ground....from the black battery cable...chase it down until it connects to the frame....wirebrush this lug...wirebrush the chassis to establish a solid GROUND connection~....be sure the battery is NEWer than five years old at which time they become reluctant to accept a charge~
