I have a different problem, my Jaguar shifts fine at first, once warm it will only go in reverse. Any ideas of what this could be?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

98' Jaguar XJ8, at first it's fine once it warms up the car will only go into reverse. The engine has been rebuilt so I was wondering if maybe something may not have been connected properly at that time or if this is a common problem.

I have a 98. A Drum in transmission is known to ail high miles. mine failed at 117K mile. similar symptoms as you stated. Had to rebuild transmission. Good luck

Thanks, I was hoping it would be something simple, guess it's time to start pricing a new transmission.

Go for a rebuild -half the price . This car has transmission manufactured by ZF, a German company. Easy to get parts

When I Drive it below 45 or 50 it runs fine soon as I go on the enter state doing about 64 mph the transmission light comes on but it still shifts fine until I slow down then it starts to seem like it gets stuck then push on the gas it Drive once I cut it off for a second it runs fine as long I stay off the highway and the transmission light goes off
