my 91 caprice would stall while driving it and it would not start, this was the day after picking it up from a good repair shop who found nothing wrong. I own the factory service manual, yes about 600 pages. The problem was a failing pick up on the distributor shaft, replaced the distributor and the car sounded like it did 20 years ago. The point IS but a factory service manual,it gives step by step of what and how to test part by part to discover what to replace.

I found the rubber hose that connects the fuel pump to the outlet tube had a split in it, when I went to replace my fuel pump, this might also be your problem.
