Thermostat in my 91 Chevy Camaro

My thermostat is not working properly is it okay to
drive the car with no thermostat in it

no... it will cause the engine to run rich and burn / collapse the catalytic conv. ...the car won't pass smog test if you are in a regulated state. be sure to replace it as soon as possible.

Exactly, and you need a 195°F thermostat in there. From a cold start the engine must reach operating temperature within a certain time limit. If not the service engine soon or check engine light will come on and a trouble code will set. HTH. -Jim
