Is this engine swap doable?

Asked by Engineswap101 Feb 24, 2020 at 08:12 PM about the 1991 Chevrolet Beretta GT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1991 beretta gt with the 3.1,
and no oil pressure! I have a 2003
olds alero with the 3400sfi in it, would
this be a fairly basic swap if doable?

I'm sure it's doable, but probably not a "fairly basic" one. The 3400 was not an engine option in the Beretta or any of it's sister models. Since you have both cars, you can look over the 3400 and see if it will have any possible fitments issues, like where starter motor is, clearance between it and steering components, exhaust heads, where CV axles align, etc. You'll basically be comparing the L body platform (for the Beretta) and the N body platform (Alero) to see who engine aligns in both. I would research this on a Beretta specific forum where you might find other owners who have tried such swaps.

The two engines are related so it may be possible. I think you will have a lot of nasty surprises along the way.
