Question type: Maintenance & Repair

P2442 code. VSC OFF, check engine and
trac control light on. Switch doesn't turn
them off. My truck will not accelerate.
Dumped out water from secondary AIP
and broke loose the stuck closed/shut air
injection valve. Still no acceleration. Not
battery connection and code will not clear.
Someone please offer sound advice. I'm
past the warranty and idk what else to do
besides drive it off a cliff and never buy
Toyota again. No dumb advice please.

I have same problem,pass warranty, secondary air injection system. Toyota wants $2100.00 to fix. I have found a Bypass Kit, that is supposed to fix this problem, from Hewitt-Tech Inc on the internet for $168.00 plus shipping. Have not installed it yet but hope it works, sure better than $2100.00.

I have the same issues with my 08 tundra 5.7 163000 Miles. Has anyone found a fix? Guru, have you install the bypass kit? If so , did it take care of your problem.

I had the same problem with my 2007 Tundra SR5 4.7 last week. I found out the issued a 10 year or 150,000 mile extended warranty from Toyota. I missed out on it by 6 months. They had to replace both secondary air injection pumps and 2 injectors $2400. The truck is driving with much more power now. So if your truck is within that time frame I would get to the dealer ASAP. I just wish it would have happened to me 6 months ago :(

My 08 Tundra has the same thing only thing I can say if you would end of warranty of 10 years are here 50,000 miles you better take it in they repaired it when they refuse to and I found the warranty and I showed it to them the back leg and Toyota fixed it for free the first time that a hundred fifty-two thousand miles it went out again and they don't want to repair it no more now I'm way past that I got 225,000 Mi if it wasn't for that but unfortunately maybe it's going to take someone needing to accelerate and getting killed or injured or hurting someone and then everybody getting together and suing the heck out of Toyota which I think we all should do a class action lawsuit to get this repaired we don't want anything but the thing repaired you mean to say that Toyota cannot find a way to just bring all the vehicles in and put in a computer bug of its own selling the system to disregard I've had to take my battery terminal off wait 30 seconds and put it back on and they used to erase that now it's just doesn't erase it anymore. But I'm truly truly mad at Toyota it is incredible how bad they've done us like I said let's all get together find a lawyer and Sue Toyota

Sorry voice text Rhett wrong they have a warranty of 10 years or a hundred and fifty thousand miles so you best at 10 years we are all screwed but I think class action lawsuit if anybody here knows an attorney has a family member that is an attorney and we can go after these big-time people cuz they're hurting us the little people who trusted them let's get it done that's the best thing about this country we all got together always and taking care of business IMAX military we all can do it

Sorry I guess I'm really upset I don't proofread and some of the words there are incorrect but I think you get the gist of it. Again anybody knows a lawyer that's a family member as a lawyer knows a lawyer we can get all the lawyer make them pay for the repairs and wasting our time and missing work

Let's do it people let stand up I don't know any lawyers I know I've said that you guys probably getting upset as hell but let's not get upset at each other we got the power you want gas prices to go down Nobody by a gas for one weekend Watch What Happens at the port you want car prices to go down or specially Toyota to get business don't buy a Toyota truck don't buy a Toyota vehicle let's get their attention

I used a code scanner with the eraced mode to erace the code it works until the truck sets over night and the catalytic converter cools off. I hear there is a kit you can buy to block the vavle body off. It also plugs into the wiring harness to fool the OBD. Does not look to hard to install. Try looking on ebay for it. Toyata secondary air bypass. My 08 is at the stealership now hopefully being fixed under warranty. Good luck buddy.

I also have this problem with my 07 SR5 Tundra 80,000 miles P2442 code. Especially screwed if you live in California. The Tundra has what they call a limp mode. It is suppose to limit power to the engine to protect it from damage. Darn secondary injection system (Smog Pump) only works until your engine warms. It can be an expensive fix. Most of the time it is a switch problem sadly it is mounted under your intake manifold and is labor intensive. The bypass kit works but California inspection stations looks for this when you get your 2 year smog. check. This truly sucks Toyota stands behind their product WAY BEHIND. We probably paid as much for the truck as a house cost in the 80's.

Hi..i have an 07 doing the same things and i have done everything possible besides dump a boatload into the system. Bypass hasn't worked and even with the techstream program i can't clear all my codes. What did you wind up doing with your issue?

Well darn it all anyway! Mine just came on. Was hoping for an easy/cheap fix like a fuse or something. Mines an 08 with 213000 mi on it. Almost paid off. Planned to keep it for along time yet. Just put 4 new tires and a brand new radio on it. Damn damn and double damn!

I wound up replacing the valves under the intake manifold. I did buy them from the dealer because I read too many complaints with aftermarket ones. My pumps were functioning fine, and once I changed the valves, it fixed the issue. I do 90% of the work on my vehicles myself, and was fearful of this repair, but it really was not a big deal. I had the intake manifold off, valves changed and reassembled in about 3 hours. I too have had too many other issues with this Tundra and it doesn't even have 100K on it yet. I'm incredibly disappointed with the quality of this vehicle. I miss my 98 Ram severely.

2007 Toyota tundra SR5 5.7l the dealership wants 2500 to replace the secondary valves for a 300 dollar part and most of this is labo0r the auto book says it takes 10.2 hours. I have 190,000 miles on it and the body looks new no problems with tranny or engine except for this issue. What I just did tonight is went to ebay and bought a bypass kit and hope it works. I bought this truck with 12,000 miles on it so I can't complain to much but Toyota should warranty there bad design on this especially to well taken care of trucks then the Toyota owners may not consider buying a dodge or chevy truck

Buy and install the AIP bypass kit from eBay. I installed it on my 2007 Toyota Tundra 2 months ago... no more lights and no more limp mode

I replaced the secondary intake, but I just unscrewed the four screws on the top leaving the housing on the truck. It took me about 20 minutes and I cleaned it with brake cleaning fluid before I put it back on and it works just fine.

the 4.7 liter is way easier to fix located next to valve covers and visible to replace 5.7 you have to remove intake manifold

I installed new valves and air pumps no change. Cleared codes and as soon as you start the truck comes right back on. Shops are a rip off I changed it all out in an hour in my driveway. Cost me about $450 for parts

Backyard80 did you figure out why the code is still on. I'm having the same issue as you. 07 4.7l tundra. Replaced the smog pump and both secondary air injector valves. Still have the check engine light. Thankfully no more limp mode. But I need check engine light off for getting smogged.

If you have a diagnostic tool plug it in , then turn your key to on Then pull Up the code and delete it. If you don't have the diagnostic tool fully disconnect your battery Negative and positive posts I do it for about 10 minutes and that should take here check engine light off

hi, I have the same problem ,I replaced all three injectors and still do the same thing ,and i erased the code and the light came back, check the engine and the csv if you know how to fix it let me know please. Thank you.

I have a 2009 Tundra 4.0l, and it seems like I'm the only one with one, because I can never find any information on a 2009 4.0. But I've just experienced the same problems with codes P0418 and P2442. If anyone have an answer, please let me know.

I had the same problem and had to drive with a code reader to keep clearing the code so my truck had power. I ended up changing both secondary air valves. I bought mine off eBay for about $280 each. I changed them myself in about 20 minutes for each side. I only changed the tops of the units by unscrewing the four bolts on the top. The bottoms of the units are metal and hollow. I did spray some cleaner down them. I had tried just cleaning them first and putting the original ones back on, but that didn’t last long. I also bought the OEM Toyota ones. I haven’t had any issues since. She runs perfect. I have a 2007 4.7 with 310,000 miles on her and she runs like the day I bought her. Hope this helps.
