Brake lights

My 1990 silverado brake lights do not work,the
bulbs and fuse are good but I don't know how to
find out if it is the brake switch,I've taken it off and
connected the white and green wires together and
the lights still do not come off, I just got this truck
and its my first truck and I really want to fix this
