what does fuel pump do when quits working? Also would 6 gallons of gas start the surburban if it ran out of gas?

We think the surburban ran out of gas but we put 6 gallons in and it still won't
start just keeps turning but not connecting

You could have burned out the fuel pump if it ran dry, You could also have air in the system that needs to be bled...

changed fuel pump 2 months ago. just changed it again and now it was bad so it was needed. however, it wont start still. it did start for a few seconds when gas was put in the engine.
