Asked by GuruWMX2 Apr 17, 2017 at 12:47 AM about the 1995 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 95 Z71 Chevy ext cab went to store one morning after owning the truck for 4
days doing around 50 mph and heard a pop drove a little further it did it again this time I
wasn't able to go any more like it had lost it's gears in the rear end realized I had four
wheel drive so I put it in high drove slow took out of four high And it moved backwards
and forwards so I  checked it and found the transfer case pops out of gear into neutral
hold while driving but still pops out of gear into neutral what is the cause and how do you
fix it also what year of transfer case will exchange with it and does the number have to
match with mine

Just a worn out transfer case, either it was never serviced or it was used rather hard, if the case is still good then overhaul the one you have, if it's done right it will be better than a stock unit. Going with a used one can bring other problems as they may also need some serious work.
