How do I change my always on, headlights, as"driving lights", to switched headlights? It has always irritated me that they are always on.

1996 Silverado, back before GM realized that driving lights should be different that the headlights.

It's in the ECU. You may or may not be able to get it reprogrammed. It's not a job for the average shop. Most likely it's a dealership deal.

There is a trick to some GM vehicles. Try starting your truck with the parking brake engaged. It may keep your daytime running lights off. If this is the case you can engage the parking brake just enough to make the switch and keep the daytime running lights off. I have a 99 Chevy Blazer and I can do it with my vehicle.

Omg so easy: just pull the DRL fuse out of the fuse block the green light will light on the instrument cluster just as normal but the headlights will not go on automatically...easy is that

To GuruTHN6J - Thanks, I just found this post, perfect answer for my 98 Sierra! No fog lights, so no worries. Plus, I still have a green light to remind me to turn on my headlights. Not having DRL helps a lot when you are only starting the truck to charge the battery!
