how to disable check engine lite

You can't. You have to fix the problem. It will not go out until you fix the problem. You need to have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes to know what to fix. Once it is fixed then with a scanner you can clear the codes.

Use a bit of black tape to cover up the offending light. "See no evil".

SES would be the same thing. Take the bulb out if your not going to do anything with it. Your engine will eventually start running like sh*t with poor gas mileage.
