1999 chevy k1500 front end locking up

Asked by Feb 04, 2017 at 11:58 AM about the 1999 Chevrolet C/K 1500 LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On my k1500 the front end will lock up when the
motor is cold. I can drive it about 4 feet then it will
lock up. Once it locks up I can give the truck more
gas and it will drive out of it. Once the truck warms
up it doesn't lock up at all. I've replaced both wheel
hubs, brakes, ABS wires can't figure out what it
could be.

May have air still trapped in system, bleed and bleed again, or check for contaminated fluid, check master cylinder and booster. May not be making enough boost/vacuum until engine warms up.

I drove it all day today and it was fine. I pulled off onto a dirt road and the truck started tugging like it was trying to go into 4wd. I turned around and drove it on pavement and it's fine. Could it be the 4wd actuator?

It would be worth checking out the actuator and shift motor, certainly. Check out troubleshooting videos on youtube.
