What kind Of Engine Can i put into my 1992 Cavalier RS 2.2 4 cylinder

I have a 92' Cavalier RS and i would like to know what kinda of engine could i
swap out and put in to this car. For Some reason its been acting up has a
rough ideal and recently you throw it in gear and it sputters and dies. Im
guessing the tranny needs a cleaning and what not but what if i need a new
engine. what can i put in it?

I suspect you need a good tune up. I don't think your problems have anything to do with the transmission. Honestly that car is probably not worth putting another engine in unless you just really love it and plan on keeping it for years to come.
