just stop running

stopped at stop sign and my truck just turned off , it turns over but sounds like it's not getting any gas . changed fuel filter but still just turns over but wont start .  I sprayed starting fluid into carb , it starts but then stops within 2 to 3 seconds . when i turn the ignition on i can here the fuel pump humming for about 5 seconds then click off , and before this problem started , every time i started the truck the fuel pump would have a high pitch sound , even as it was running .  Is that sound normal or is that an indication that the fuel pump was slowing going out ?  appreciate your help .
