Speedometer off

Asked by kdtess1 Jul 15, 2016 at 11:35 AM about the 1997 Chevrolet C/K 2500 Cheyenne LB HD 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When truck is in idle and i max out rpms the
speedometer will jump around and i am not
moving. Also to go 65mph the speedometer is
around 84 mph. It seams the faster i go there is
more difference from actual speed to what is on
the speedometer.

The first part just happens. Idk why but I've seen mine do it to, don't make a habit of hitting the Rev limiter in neutral. It sounds like you have the wrong gear ratio in the rear end for what the truck is setup for. Or have a drastically different tire size
