my book says two diffrent brake systems,  what would be the most likely reason for having to add brake fluid.  and what should i expect repair cost.  just a rough estimate

The only way you can run low on brake fluid is if it leaks out. You should see oil on the driveway. Check around in the vicinity of the leak. If you have no leaks it is probably worn pads. If you have a hydraulic leak your brakes probably are on the verge of failing. That's dangerous. If the pads are worn a simple brake job should help. There is no way of knowing the cost without seeing the vehicle.
