car starts drives, sometimes quits, go to neutral shut off ignition restarts up and
drives. sometimes on a startup, wil start then quit, restart and quit,the restart,
rev, get flat spot and then will run. all this is not often but but if fast driving [80 k]
very very seldom

Crank sensor, cam sensor, ignition module are the three things that usually cause this problem, the headache is catching them in failure mode to make sure that is the problem, you might check for any codes in the memory that might give you a place to start or if so inclined just replace them all at the same time, reset the computer and drive it as you normally do so the computer can reset it operational settings.

crank & cam sensor replaced.is there a self diagnostic system like on caddies that will give codes ?what code reader works on this car?

Not like a Cadillac, you need a code reader for this one.
