repaired the alternator let it warm up for awhile before driving it went to back
up out of drive way and put it in gear i had no drive tried 3rd gear nothing
tried 2nd gear i was able to drive it tried it in 1st worked...  I drove it to the
shop at 30 miles an hour. I was told it could be a solenoid or a fuse? the
tranny guy said the band or bands snapped......how could this happen all of a
s when I didnt drive it for it for 2 months.

Most likely you have a transmission fluid leak or, if stored outside, critters chewed on some wiring for the transmission. Check the transmission fluid level and inspect the wiring harnesses for critter damage. If it was driving fine before you parked it. A solenoid can stick after sitting. But 2 months isn't a very long time. While it is possible, I doubt that's what the problem is. My 2000 Grand Prix sits from January until March every year and I've never had a problem. Did you disconnect the negative (-) battery cable when you parked it? That insures that the battery won't go dead while sitting. HTH. -Jim
