My 2000 Buick LeSabre is running hot, no smoke from overheating, but felt as iff it was going to break down when I was parking.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 2000 Buick LeSabre has been running hot for about 6 days now, never
in the red.  Friday it went to the red, but did not overheat.  My husband
replaced the thermostat, but that is not the problem.  The car is running hot
after running for 20 minutes, and just now when I got to work it was in the
red, no steam/smoke from overheating, but as I went to park it started
jumping like it was going to break down.  I shut it off, and heard a loud
hissing.  Just went out to check it, did not start it, but there was a puddle of
antifreeze, under the car on the driver's side.

For future readers: First, find the leak. You may have a slow leak in the radiator hoses, the radiator or the connectors through the idler pulley housing going to the heater. I had a leak on the passenger side that showed up on the ground on the drivers side. The coolant ran along the cover below the radiator. I've also had a plugged up overflow bottle that prevented coolant from returning to the radiator during cooling, resulting in overflowing to the ground through the bottle vent.
