Car runs great, scheduled maint says to
replace timing chain at 105k mi.  Should 1
($900).

The reason it is $900 is because it is a pain in the rear to do. You have to take a lot of stuff off of the motor to get to it, and then when you install the new chain you have to get the timing right or risk damage to the engine. Do NOT ignore the recommended maintenance! Anyone saying anything counter to that is giving terrible advice. It's $900 now, or $4000 later when your timing chain snaps and takes out a couple of valves on the way out. Your choice.
