My car will turn on but won't go into drive

My car starting giving me problems a couple days ago
where it sometimes goes into gear and sometimes don't.
What could the problem be?

I have a 2007 Chrysler Pacific I hit a mini Pole and when I cut it off it won't start back up what is the problem
