Alternatior or Battery

Asked by Sexy Jan 07, 2018 at 12:28 AM about the 2007 Mitsubishi Galant ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was waiting at a fast food place and my radio
starts messing up so I think oh no big deal then my
battery light comes on. I then the car off thinking
the sensor may have came on then the car
wouldn't crank. I got it to crank and the battery light
came on so did SRS and anti lock. The car kept
jerking as I drove and all the lights were off on the
interior and no head lights.  I pull into a place to
call someone to see if they had an idea and I have
no control over the car it keeps jerking I can't turn
the wheel or anything and it won't accelerate. No
radio no heat no head lights nothing.

There's a good chance you have a bad electrical connection at the battery. Check the cables where they connect to the battery posts, one of them may be fraying and only providing intermittent power. Most of those symptoms you posted can come from losing electrical power (which would also cause motor to shut off). Obviously don't drive it anywhere, even if it seems okay - it can still lose power without notice. Have someone mechanically inclined inspect all battery and cable connections. If a battery cable is frayed, you can replace the end with a new terminal from any auto parts store. Of course the problem may not be immediately visible, so entire battery cables and grounds will all have to be inspected.
