Aur conditioner disfunction that causes the complete engine crash

My Volvo V70 has 140000 km and I recently
changed the transmission and accessory belts.
One week later I heard a big noise in the engine and
had to stop. The expert told me that the air-
conditioner compressor broke-down. The
consequence is that the accessory belt broke and
after also the transmission belt: that makes that the
engine is now completely out if order. How can this
be possible ? Thanks for helping

I assume you mean timing belt, not transmission belt?
