Over heating

Asked by GuruW1P9W May 10, 2018 at 11:12 AM about the 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Okay so i have a 2007 grand prix base model v6 its
over heating not to the red line but half to a little bit
over half i replaced the thermostat water pump,
flushed the radiator, added new coolant, and
replaced my fans and relays, the fans arent
working on the car and the rpms move when idling
like its going to stall out. I also replaced the
balancer and crank shaft senor and had the
ignition module tightened up. Would anyone know
why its doing this? Hoping its not too expensive to
fix.

Well randomly throwing parts at it doesn't seem to be working, so maybe its time to get a professional diagnosis by a shop. Are you sure there's not air trapped in the cooling system? That's easily the most common cause of overheating in these engines. Did you bleed the excess air out of the system? Again, if you're not up to doing this yourself have a shop with the proper vacuum equipment refill it for you to make sure there's no air in there.

I actually had a professional recommend that it could be whats wrong is why i put them in. I have bubbling in my overflow. The fans are working now so it wasnt random parts it needed them anyway

Did your professional pressure test the cooling system? Bubbling in your overflow sounds like a blown head gasket or air trapped in the cooling system. Did you use the bleeder valve to attempt to purge trapped air from the system?

Coolant temp sensor controls fans when temp reaches two bars over half. Temps sensor is located rear of manifold near thermostat outlet for coolant. 10 to 12 dollars at any parts house before tax
