Heater is acting funny

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My heater is acting funny. When I warm it up in the morning, the heater will blows warm air and defrosts the windows. I drove to the kids school and brought her inside, when I came back in the car was still blowing warm air. Then I drove to work, parked in the parking lot and switched it from defrost to where it blows down by your feet. When I made the switch, it started blowing cold air. I changed the temp from cold to hot, which made it blow luke-warm air. Then the car started running hotter than usual at idle. The coolant isn't low. Not sure what it could be. The water pump is a year old. Could it be just a clog somewhere?

Sounds like the actuator that opens and closes doors in the ductwork to direct the warm air to different parts of the car is not working properly. Prepare yourself, it’s a lot of labor to fix.
