Power steering fluid leak

Asked by Jonbry123 Oct 31, 2018 at 06:24 PM about the 2007 Pontiac G6 GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Pontiac G6 GT. I replaced the power steering pump. I have a
major leak that sprays up from the bottom of the car. It appears the leak is
coming from the resevoir. I can see fluid leaking under it and sounds like air
coming out. Is there a gasket that should be there and if so do I need to take
the whole mess apart again removing the fly wheel to check to see if the
gasket is missing or bad? The hoses running to the firewall are good. There
is power steering fluid spray all over the inside of the wheel well and when
care is turned on can see a spray of fluid coming up from the bottom under
one of the serpentine belt wheels, closest one back to the fire wall at the
bottom where the tension bolt is and is spray up on the hood roof mat. Thank
you.

There are clips at the bottom of the reseviour which need to come off. Not sure how to remove them if they can be without taking everything apart again. Hope to hear good news do not have to to get the resevior off the see if gasket is bad. Thank you.

Disassemble as far as you need to to be sure all gaskets are in place and not cracked or twisted. Reassemble and properly torque the mounting bolts. No short cut here if it is leaking.

So I have to take the whole thing apart again as the clips that hold the resevior on face the engine block and not enough room to push them off attached to the power steering pump?

Guess so. You need to disassemble until you can determine the leak source and fix it. Good luck.
