Towing a 2007 Grand Vitara...in Park?

Asked by BarryGrace Mar 25, 2020 at 04:45 PM about the 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara Base 4WD

Question type: General

In towing my 2007 Grand Vitara I cannot seem to tow without taking it out of
Park (P) in the auto tranny position.  I have turned the transfer switch to the
“N” position, the “N” indicator comes on with the buzzer sound.  The “N” light
on the instrument cluster comes on. I shifted the automatic transmission lever
into “P” (Park).  I try to tow the vehicle and it does not move.  If I shift the
automatic tranny to N then it will move.  What am I doing wrong as I went
exactly by the manual and with on-line suggestions.  Help.

Make sure the vehicle has been started and the engine is running. I came across the same problem the first time I tried to tow the Vitara and had to take the car out of park to tow. With the car started and engine running and you go through the procedure for the transfer switch you can then place the car into park for towing. Turn off the ignition and put the key in the on position. Free to tow now when car is in park position.
