94 suburban transmission free revs in 3rd?

Asked by timberwolf177 Dec 31, 2014 at 11:59 AM about the 1994 Chevrolet Suburban K1500 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 94 suburban sle 4x4 1500.  Last night coming home from work the truck went from 1 to 2 no problem, then just free revved in 3rd (no accel).. I let off gas, it grabbed second and then worked in 3rd and 4th.
This morning.. no so much.  1 to 2 is fine... acts like it will go into 3rd but just rev's up and nothing, I let off on gas it catches second and just stays there in second until I stop.  Then repeats cycle.

Is it toast?.. or could there be another fix?

As a guess I'd say the spring on the 3-4 accumulator piston inside the valve body of the transmission has broken.

that is a different answer.. worth looking into. I searched everywhere, but my problem seemed a bit different than most post.. so thanks.
