Power liftgates have sensors that prevent them from closing when it senses resistance. They are designed this way to prevent it from damaging itself or anyone/thing that may be unable to get out of the way. If there is anything around the seal or latch that prevents it from closing fully the result can be unwanted random opening. Also if one of the "pinch sensors" is not functioning properly the module that controls it could interpret that as an obstruction and open the door.
