Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello Rich F or anyone with this problem.
Rich, I just read your details on your Nissan 2007. I have a 2007 Nissan
Altima with the same problems, my car has 172,000 miles on it, I am the only
owner and I baby my car, it rarely ever goes over 60 MPH. And like you, all I
have ever done with it is changed the Engine Oil, In fact I switched it to
Amsoil at 100,000 miles. The past two months the car has started going nuts
on the RPM'S and odometer would read 0 when i was driving 40 + a few
times and climb a hill forget it sometimes, three days ago it was like stuck in
another gear sounded like a race car with no go power, it was going 40 mph
and rpm's were at 3.5 and couldn't get the speed up to get on the interstate
pulled over on side of interstate turned it off for one minute restarted and
ready to go again. Anytime i have trouble i pull over turn it off a few minutes
and back on all is good and it is ready to go again! I am reaching out hoping
somebody here can tell me the outcome of their car so i know where i should
go from here :/ I have managed to find parts for this CVT transmission, in fact
just changed the TCU on it yesterday hoping for relief. But the check engine
light came back on today after driving it all over God's creation with no
problems. I will be hooking up the scanner to see the new codes tonight!
Last code I received was for the CVT Stepper motor which I have found and
will be what I try next, if still showing code for it. Anything you have learned or
gone through I would greatly appreciate your input...

The Nissan CVT's are a disaster. How did you get that many miles on it before it failed?

The Trans was $1,450 purchased at Nissan and my husband and friends put it in the car in less then one day, they also did Shocks, Struts and sway bars not included with Trans price. Honestly, I don't know how I got that many miles on the original as I never serviced it. Now my dilemma is do i service this one or let it go also?

Thank you! I have a 2011 and my transmission is going so, to have this estimate in price is nice.

$1,450 for a new CVT is very cheap. The installed price for a Subaru CVT is around $8,000.

Wow. Amazing how people won't make a few searches online or some phone calls and for 8000 you need to go buy a nice used one!

Vijay My 2009 Altima is currently in the shop for a new transmission. Nissan extended the drive train warranty to a limited 10 year/120k warranty. And if your car is doing what AltimaApril's is you may only need to replace the transmission fliud. Cost me 200 to have the fluid changes at the dealer. I had to do mine every 40-50k miles as I live in a state with mountains.
