What a problem with the catalytic
converters cause the engine to
make a ticking noise

Cats can make noise when cooling off due to metal contraction. I suppose metal expansion could also make noise but it would be hard to hear with the engine running.

a small exhaust leak can make a ticking noise when the engine is running.
