I just had the same prblem last week. There is something under the hood near the firewall that allows you to disengage the shifter so the car can be moved onto a flat bed tow truck to take it to the shop. I had to replace the shift lock solenoid . Cost me lots. Had the money earmarked for brakes. Now it shifts perfectly.
