When replacing the ECM you need to transfer the PROM from the old ECM to the new one. Your Caprice is OBD I. You need to flash out any stored trouble codes with the service engine soon or check engine light using a paperclip in the upper right two terminals of the ALDL connector under the dash. You can't use a code reader unless it's OBD I compatible (GM 1981 thru '95 only) or has an adapter for OBD I vehicles. HTH. -Jim
