Asked by LT1olds Mar 21, 2014 at 05:04 AM about the 1994 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I put a 94 Camaro lt1 into a 1984 Olds.  Its cranks over for at least 5sec before getting
signal voltage to IGN MODULE white wire (B5 FROM PCM) for spark.  Once running,
engine runs fine.  Fuel, Distributor, grounds, Bat voltage are all where they should be.
New MSD OPTI SPARK DISTRIBUTOR and MSD COIL and MODULE...MAIN
QUESTION....WHY IS ENGINE CRANKING FOR SO LONG BEFORE GETTING
SPARK/VOLTAGE TO ING. MODULE FROM PIN BLACK B5 FROM PCM???
DIRECT ANSWERS PLEASE..NO MAYBES. COMMENT IF YOU HAVE SOLVED
THIS EXACT PROBLEM.

Problem ended up being the BRAND NEW MSD OPTISPARK. Replaced MSD with an OEM OPTISPARK, and problem solved.
