2007 Pontiac Solstice

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2007 Pontiac Solstice and when I
make a turn or back up, I hear a
screeching/scrapping noise.  None of the
Mechanics know why.  Any feedback would
be appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you Tom, I took the Vehicle to 2 mechanics today & they contemplate it needs to be flushed - the rear differential two times, plus adding a limited slip additive flush to possibly fix the problem. However, there isn't any guarantee this would repair the issue, at which time, such would require replacement of rear differential which is quite costly. I just purchased vehicle and it was one owner, very low mileage & utilized rarely, but was garaged. What do you think? Thank you!

There was a known issue with the limited slip rears having problems with the clutch packs in the rear end itself. They would make clunking or rubbing noises when turning the car in a tight radius, and on mine I thought it was front end noise initially. I wonder if this is also the issue when moving the car in reverse? If a mechanic is recommending a rear end flush out with new hypoid gear oil and limited slip additive, consider getting the clutch packs replaced at the same time.
