Why does my HHR sound like it is not shifting into gear?

When driving, the HHR sounds like it is not shifting into high gear. It makes a whining noise.

maybe its not shifting. and the wining sound is high rpm,s the engine light should come on with a code stored

It drives like its in a LOW gear and when coming to stop its making a winding noise. Like ur pushing a remote control toy car. We JUST got the smh traction control off and now this??
