My 2006 Mercury Mariner runs rough and when at a stop light at idle it feels like it wants to die. Wondering what we could try to fix the problem...without putting a brand new everything on it!

How long has it been since your car had a tuneup? Try using a good fuel system cleaner too.

If the check engine light is on then the codes need to be read so you know what the problem is. An auto parts store or mechanic can read them for you if you don't have a scanner.

We had that problem on our 2006 mercury mariner 2 weeks ago and the diagnostic test, $75 showed that the EGR was bad. Mechanic fixed it and problem solved. Part $50 and labor $140
