Sputtering n dash going nuts

Ok so when driving it will b fine then out of no where it will start sputtering n the battery light will come on and the rpm n speed gages will go nuts it does not try to die or nothing but it will clear up n b fine again but when its sputtering and u turn it off it wont restart u have to disconnect batt cables wait bout 15-20 mins reconnect them then it will fire right up im thinking computer mayb???? Means how i have to reset it i just dont want to spen $400 on new computer and that not b it
