How should I go about cleaning/repairing the starter in my 2001 Saturn SL1?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My cars starter seems to be
bad/dirty/old and it doesn't like
starting sometimes, and other times
it dies when my car's RPM/idle sits
too low.
I read that I should clean my starter,
or check my ignition...?
Which should I do?

The starter only works when you start the car. If the engine rpms drop it has nothing to do with the starter. If the starter old and slow it could be the starter or the battery is getting weak. You can have both tested at Autozone for free.
