Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I want to "add" 4 wheel drive to my 95 1500 suburban w/ a 350. I have bought a 99 that has a good working 4 wheel drive on it. My question is this. Have I lost my mind or is this doable? if it is any suggestions? I would appreciate any wisdom that yall could give me. I do have access to two lifts and are tools to help with this job. how long should this take? what do I need to watch out for? what are the tricks to get this done?

what type of drive train does 1995 1500 suburban have? and why did you bring up the 99 . are you going to use it as a donor car?

they have 2 completly different front end set-ups. It's not as simple as switching parts. Your better off either doing a solid axle swap on the 95 suburban or finding a 4x4 suburban for cheap with a blown motor or something and fix it with your 'burban's parts. Also the 99's trans wont work in the 95. You will need a 4x4 trans to bolt the transfer case onto. To put it short, no. Its just not practical.

the 95 is a 4x2. a solid axle swap? please give more information on this. trans not a match? the 99 is complete and running. my plan was to take everything from bell housing bolts back. but from your post it is not looking to good for my bug out buggy (B.O.B.) the 95. more than owning a 4x4 I wanted to say "I did it" . hum... well anyone want to buy a wrecked 99 burban? runs great 4x4 works well just smashed on the right side is all. but as I said it is just something I wanted to do rather than something I needed to do.
