2006 Kia Spectra Ex frame

Asked by Guru5HK84 Jan 18, 2018 at 03:27 PM about the 2006 Kia Spectra EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Frame is rotted with two holes on both sides. I can
get it patched although it is all rotted there are only
two holes. Now patching it by far less costly then
replacing the frame. Is it worth patching the holes
and taking it as and if it breaks down a bit due to
rust to replace down the road or to spend a lot
more to replace Frame?  One of the holes but
shows rust rest of frame has.

Get some picture taking practise while you are at it. I wouldn't drive a car with a frame that looks like what I think that looks like. I would replace the frame or more likely replace the car. That could be a very serious safety issue.

I'd look over the entire subframe for other signs of rot, and if it is rotted, swap it out - or sell/scrap vehicle. You can get subframes for most compact cars in the 3-400 range, and it will take a full day (8 hours) in labor to swap it. IF you think frame if okay with typical rust and not rot, then maybe try to weld some fish plates on there.

It is not the whole frame the frame is fine it is the front frame that looks like is much easier to replace then the frame. I brought it used at most likely to much the rest has rust that looks around the hole. It is contained to front frame or I hear someone call it k frame. A lot part of the front frame has rust equal to not the whole area. Here's another pic.
