Asked by May 24, 2017 at 10:41 AM about the 2006 Kia Rio LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a kia rio 2006 with 70k miles..a few weeks
ago the engine light turned on and autozone
checked the code as po420 (catalyst system) 4
days later the light turned off ...I don't feel any
difference on the car as I drive but after a week the
light turned on again.
Any suggestions?

Catalyst below threshold, try running some Seafoam through intake to do a good cleaning, follow the directions, and then run a bottle of Techron to the fuel tank on your next ill up, if the code returns then have the O2 sensors tested with a live data scanner, it could be a slow O2, if they check good then you will eventually have to replace the catalysts.

sensor after catalytic going bad, or time to look for a replacement cat
