What is the cause for a high-pitched alarm sound that comes through the stereo speakers?

Asked by carolynkatzenbach Oct 21, 2013 at 09:58 PM about the 2007 Cadillac STS V6 RWD

Question type: General

Every now and then, just at random times, a high pitched sound comes through the car's built in stereo speakers. It sounds almost like an amber alert or PBS alert coming through as it sounds on TV.  Lasts a few minutes, and then stops by itself.  Is this anything to be concerned about?  No indicators, (i.e. dash messages, etc. show any reason )  for this alarm.

Sounds like the OnStar. There could be a malfunction that is making it activate.

I have a 2007 STS-V and i also have the random beep tone that lasts from a few seconds to several minutes. The tone got progressively worse over time until it sounded every time I started the car. I traced it to the Bose amplifier (driver side trunk). I ordered one from eBay ($72) a new one from the dealer is about $700. I'll update after I replace it.

Hello, I have a small caveat to deliver, I received to Bose amp and an education. My car is equipped with Bose surround sound which is different than Bose stereo, the amps look identical except for one has a grey 32 pin plug (surround sound) and one has a blue 32 pin plug (stereo) and they are not interchangeable. Buyer be where..... good thing it was only $72 as electrical parts are returnable...

My 2008 CTS 3.6, has a very faint beep at low speeds in the interior. It comes on for a few seconds (up to 20-30 seconds) then stops. Then a different pitch for a few seconds then stops. Seems electronic. Becoming unbearable. Changes tones and never more than one tone at a time. Faint, but mind-numbing! Sounds like the hearing test they give you in the booth. On Star not activated, sat radio deactivated, stereo off. still there. HELP!

Hi today my Cadillac Escalade started making that high pitch Amber alert sound. It didn't stop until we got home. No indicator popped up. My fiancé and we're freaked out.

My SRX started beeping 5 times every so many minutes until I got home but before I actually got home I noticed that it was beeping because I had my back pack and a 12 pack of Pepsi in the passenger seat and apparently the car thinks those items should have a seatbelt.
