Headlights come on when I open door

when I turn off engine - headlights go off - however when I open car door lights come on -
the only way to shut off lights is to start rngine - then turn - headlights go off but when
you open door headlights come back on

Sounds like a short leading up to the headlight switch. It is turning on the headlights as if they were the internal lights. Remove the switch and check it with a multimeter for continuity between positions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDzRsOpne_Q This will help you with the multimeter.
