can you change the crank bearings with the engine still in the car on a 1996 3.8, five speed and what upgraded engine can you recomend that bolts to that tranny

i hae a really loud knock at the bottom end of the motor i beleive its a crank
bearing any input

It would be one pain in the ass to try and change crank bearings while the engine is in the car. I suppose it is possible, but don't do it that way. Workmanship would not be as good as having the engine upside down on a engine stand. Also the 3.8L engine is a great engine when taken care of.

If you have a bad knock you really want to do a proper tear down anyhow, and not just swap out bearings you think are bad. Who knows what else you'll find when you crack the engine open.
