Has anyone had an OIL PUMP go out on 03 Rendevous? And what did it act like?

Asked by Jan 01, 2017 at 11:29 AM about the 2003 Buick Rendezvous CX FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My rendevous started making rattling noise, slightly, the just stopped, a red
flashing light came really bright saying no oil pressure, when recranking to get
off the road it was very hard cranking, putter knock and stall. no oil leaks and full
of fresh oil. Will turn over and start then die. I stopped and had it hauled home.

Not a Rendevous, but yes an failed oil pump will do exactly that, first the lifters collapse, that it the rattling noise, and if you had shut down right then and there you might have saved the engine, but now it sounds like the bearings have ran dry and scored the crankshaft, and possibly cam bearings, so to make a long story short it's time for another engine, used, rebuilt or new, the choice is yours. If you don't want to put any money in it then if you have the title you can sell it as is where is and move on.
