Need help my 2004 my coolaint over heating light came on

Did the car over heat or did the light just come on? the first thing to check is your coolant level. if it's still good then a couple of thing you can do is start the car and get it up to temp and turn on the heater and let it run . a couple thing you are checking for one is hot air coming out second does that help keep the temp down. if it is blowing hot air and it keeps the temp down then feel you radiator hoses the upper and lower. they both should feel hot. if one it hot and the other warm to cool that usaully means your thermostat is sticking.
