The price actually sounds like a decent price. When I did a kbb search it said the average price for the car in fair condition is $1700. I would be very weary to buy a car with a check engine light on. If I were you and you have the means I would take the car to a mechanic before you purchase it to have it checked over. If it's only the 02 sensor that needs to be replaced then I'd say go ahead and buy it and replace it (depending on the cost of the 02 sensor) but I wouldn't be very comfortable buying unless I was completely sure that the check engine light is nothing too serious.
